How the refinery might affect you:
With the toxins being released per Hyperion, air quality will certainly be affected.
We are not aware of any refinery where odors are within acceptable levels to those living around them.
Noise and light pollution during construction as well as after the refinery is operational.
Our present underground aquifers will be at risk with the creeks & rivers receiving "polluted run-off".
All roads & highways are presently grossly inadequate. Along with the increase in traffic, who will pay for the infastructure?
Our school systems will be impacted with student to teacher ratio's being over-extended, new schools having to be built, etc.
Our present courthouse and jails are inadequate for the crime and drugs that will be brought into our communities.
Gas prices will most likely go up based on evidence of gas prices from other oil refining towns across the US.
Present local businesses being forced to move/close due to change in wages, loss of workforce & negative aspects of refinery.
In summary, we do not believe that the economic benefits that may potentially
occur may be worth the huge costs to our present systems and quality
of life. While there may be a local spike in wages and land valuation,
the increased costs of “doing business” and the related loss
in quality of life and the environment still cause us to believe this
project is better suited somewhere else (existing brown fields, abandoned military bases, present refineries, etc).
Let's protect and conserve our natural resources of water, air & soil. Let's preserve the quality of our schools & local businesses. Let's invest in clean energy rather than fossil fuels & let's hold our leaders accountable to protecting the legacy for our children & grandchildren!
